How injury may occur: Due to the amount of repetitive jumping and landing in volleyball, pain can begin to occur below the kneecap. This is an injury that typically occurs over time instead of from one traumatic event. Treatment: Rest, stretching and strengthening of the legs are a few of the ways to treat patellar tendinitis. Areas of focus include stretching and strengthening of the quads, hamstrings, and glute muscles.
The first priority of first aid is to preserve life. When encountering and incident, a primary survey should be carried out. Bleeding - check the surrounding area, and check the body from head to toe for blood. Head & neck - check for bruising and/or deformity. Gently feel the back of the head and neck for abnormalities.
If the skin is broken, apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment, then cover with a bandage or gauze and adhesive tape. If you can’t control the bleeding after several attempts with direct pressure, call your pediatrician or head to an Emergency Room.
